Marching Band and Color Guard

The Liberty Lancer Marching Band is an award-winning 4A band program. We work hard and have a lot of fun while doing it! There are so many benefits to participating in band. High school students can develop a strong sense of discipline, teamwork, and creativity while developing into high level performers!

The Marching Band participates in two parades each year: The Veteran’s Day Parade and The Parade of Lights. We also compete in several marching band competitions throughout the fall, culminating with the Colorado Band Masters Association State Championship. The Marching Band also performs for the community at our home football games!

The band program regularly travels to perform outside of Colorado. Recently, Liberty Bands performed in Dallas (2023), and Walt Disney World in Orlando (2025).

Summer Marching Band Dates

The marching band participates in camps over the summer to prepare for the season. We have a Mini Camp at the beginning of June/end of May, Sectional Camps in June and July, and Band Camp the last two weeks of July. Check the calendar for this year’s specific dates and times.

Mini Camp - This is your chance to try out marching band! Everyone interested in participating in the season should come to Mini Camp. You will make your choice on whether or not you’d like to join by the end of this camp. Even those who are sure they’re joining should still attend!

Sectional Camps - These camps help us work on fundamental skills that prepare us for band camp. We will focus on music learning, memorization, and marching technique. This is also a great time to bond with your section!

Band Camp - Band Camp is the most important part of our season!!! All students need to attend both weeks. We learn the majority of our show during this time.

Band Camp!!!!!!!

Band Camp is when the band learns the music and show for the competitive season. In addition to the show music, stand tunes and parade music are prepared as well as marching techniques and drill sets. Band camp is mandatory for all marching band and color guard students.

Students should bring the following items to band camp each day:

Instrument
Music
3-ring, 8-½ x 11 binder with a bendable cover
Pencil
Sunscreen
Hat
Ice Water in a large water jug (available at Target, Jax, Wal-Mart, etc.)
Gatorade
Snacks
Tennis shoes and athletic, light colored clothes

Additionally, students will need to bring a sack lunch and snacks each day during band camp. The Directors want students on campus, eating lunch together. Please pack enough food and water to stay happy and energized all day.

Band Camp Tips

Each student's time on the field is very important to the success of the band, so students should do everything they can do to ensure their full participation during rehearsals, including being proactive in preparing for time out in the sun.

  • The band will be outside most of the day, so students should be prepared to take good care of themselves at rehearsal and at home.

  • Students should start each camp day with a nutritious breakfast.

  • Students should also hydrate themselves at home, before and after rehearsals.

  • While at rehearsal, students are expected to have water, sunscreen, and wear a hat at all times. If a student should not have one of these items, they should see a staff member, drum major or section leader, and we will be happy to make sure that they get what they need.

Registering for Concert Band, Marching Band and Color Guard

Marching Band is a 9th hour class at Liberty High School. All members who play a band instrument must be enrolled in a concert band during the school day. Color Guard members who don’t play a band instrument must be enrolled in a dance class during the school day. Make sure to include “Marching Band” or “Color Guard” as your 9th hour course to be a part of the marching band!

See the concert band page for more information on course offerings.
